 SA8000 Certification
I. INTRODUCTION TO SA8000
1- SA8000 is a global social accountability standard for decent working conditions, developed and overseen by Social Accountability International (SAI). Over the years, the Standard has evolved into an overall framework that helps certified organizations demonstrate their dedication to the fair treatment of workers across industries and in any country
2- SA8000 is based on the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention on the Rights of the Child and various International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions. SA8000 covers the following elements of accountability: Child Labor; Forced or Compulsory Labor; Health and Safety; Freedom of Association & Right to Collective Bargaining; Discrimination; Disciplinary Practices; Working Hours; Remuneration and Management System.
3- SA8000 improves standards for workers and for business: Management systems, worker engagement, a culture of continuous improvement, and other elements of SA8000 not only lead to better working conditions and worker well-being, they also have benefits for productivity, stakeholder relationships, market access, and more.
